Here We Go Again

The Constitution Party Warns Americans: War against Iran will be as unconstitutional as war against Iraq and Afghanistan.

LANCASTER, PA: Echoing the alarm that millions of Americans now feel regarding what appears to be imminent war against Iran, the nation’s third largest political party, the Constitution Party strongly urges pre-emptive action by Congress NOW to avert another unauthorized, ill-conceived military strike in the Middle East.

The voice of reason can be summed up in N.C. Congressman Walter Jones’ resolution (HJR 14) which states that:

“Absent a national emergency created by attack by Iran, or a demonstrably imminent attack by Iran, upon the United States, its territories or possessions or its armed forces, the President shall consult with Congress, and receive specific authorization pursuant to law from Congress, prior to initiating any use of military force against Iran.”

“You would think at this point Americans would understand that a congressional resolution such as HJR 14 should be completely unnecessary, because according to the Constitution, only CONGRESS can declare war. We shouldn’t have to make provisions for the President to follow the Constitution when it is clear - going to war is something that was never, ever to be decided by presidents,” said Constitution Party National Chairman Jim Clymer.

According to polls, close to 70% of Americans do not approve of the way the president has handled the war in Iraq (http://pollingreport.com/iraq.htm). Regardless, President Bush has now primed the war pump for yet another unauthorized military occupation - this time in Iran.

“Americans who voted for a party change in Congress hoping to see an end to the Iraq war must now admit the choices in American politics are mostly smoke and mirrors. Instead of a quick end to U.S. involvement in Iraq, it appears the addition of 21,000 more soldiers means we will be there for quite some time,” Clymer added.

Déjà Vu

“Looking back exactly 4 years ago to the specious rationale that was used for beginning the Iraq invasion, it’s utterly astounding that we are being fed more of the same pap as justification for another unconstitutional war with another middle eastern country”, Clymer said.

It’s Time

We must consider the past, the present and look to the future. The Constitution Party, the third largest party in terms of voter registrations, opposes all unconstitutional military incursions, espouses a return to limited government and challenges Americans to declare the time has come to seek real political change with America’s only pro-life, pro-gun, pro limited government party, the Constitution Party.
